In last night’s Broussard City Council meeting, an ordinance (#23-786) was approved to amend the 2023/2024 Budget of Operating Revenue and Expenditures for a Utility Kiosk for $45,000.
- Mayor Ray Bourque stated at the December 12, 2023, council meeting that the kiosk was thought to be $55,000. However, the cost for the kiosk was amended to $45,000.
- The annual warranty/maintenance for the kiosk would be approximately $6,000.
- The Kiosk would allow residents to pay their water bill anytime, twenty-four hours a day.
- The Kiosk would allow residents to opt out of receiving paper bills, saving on paper mailings.
Ordinance (#23-787) was approved at last night’s council meeting. The ordinance amends the 2023/2024 Budget of Operating Revenues and Expenditures for Building Renovations at 102 (Public Works Building), 106 (Training Building), and 110 (Fire Department Building) on Bercegeay Road.
- Initially, the renovation amount was expected to be $800,000. Bourque requested the $800,000 be amended to $690,000 during the December 12, 2023 council meeting.
- The City purchased the buildings at 102, 106, and 100 Bercegeay Road earlier this year, along with property at 5801 Highway 90 East (former Superior Oil Location) for $5.3 million.
- The building on Highway 90 will be used for the new Broussard Police Station. Renovations for this building are not included in the Building Renovations Ordinance #23-787.
- The purchase price of the buildings and property is $5.3 million. According to Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque, the city was advised if the city built a new police department, the cost would be $9 million, which would have only given the city a new police department.
The City of Broussard has a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Cristen Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux replaces Karen Fontenot, appointed CFO by Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet for Lafayette Consolidated Government.
