Baton Rouge, LA (January 29, 2025) – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced an additional $3 million in funding from the Louisiana Legislature for litter pickup along major federal highways statewide. This initiative aims to enhance the cleanliness and visual appeal of critical transportation routes across the state.

The litter pickup contract began recently in the New Orleans area, coinciding with the upcoming Super Bowl to ensure the region is in pristine condition for visitors and residents. In addition to litter removal, residents can expect early grass-cutting services along the interstates through an existing state contract.

In the coming months, residents statewide will notice litter removal efforts along major interstates, including I-10, I-12, I-20, I-110 and I-610.

In fiscal year 2024, DOTD committed approximately $13.6 million to litter pickup, reinforcing the state’s dedication to maintaining clean and safe roadways. This financial investment raises important questions about resource allocation, as funds spent on litter removal could be directed toward critical areas such as road improvements, maintenance and transportation enhancements.

DOTD encourages all residents to do their part in keeping Louisiana litter-free by disposing of waste properly and participating in local cleanup efforts. For more information on how you can get involved, please visit https://keeplouisianabeautiful.org
