Submitted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development

BATON ROUGE, LA (January 8, 2025) – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces staff are prepared to respond and take precautionary measures in the event of adverse weather. Below-freezing temperatures and a possible wintry mix are forecast for portions of the state this week.

DOTD will have crews scouting the bridges and overpasses, and field crews are ready to begin pre-treating measures as necessary.

Supply inventories and equipment have been checked and verified, and staff will be monitoring bridges, overpasses, and other elevated sections of roadways to perform winter weather operations, such as applying de-icing materials.

DOTD also closely monitors the forecast and closely contacts the National Weather Service.

Additionally, DOTD is prepared to close certain bridges and overpasses deemed impassable or identified as preemptive emergency closures as part of each region’s snow and ice plan, as applicable.

Motorists are advised that some bridges and overpasses may become unsafe for travel before a closure notice is issued based on the speed and intensity of the storm, and should take responsibility to drive accordingly.

Drivers should avoid being on the roadways if travel is not absolutely necessary.

During winter weather conditions, motorists should adhere to the following driving safety tips:
