DOTD Safe Routes to School Project has Started in Youngsville

A new sidewalk is currently being constructed outside the Ernest Gallet Elementary School which is located along East Milton Avenue in Youngsville, Louisiana. The Safe Routes to School Project is funding this project.

In March 2023, the Louisiana Department of Transportation (DOTD) announced the start of its Safe Routes to School project in Lafayette Parish. The $1,559,931.10 project is to install new roadway safety enhancements, including sidewalks, driveways, handicap ramps, grading, and signage along various routes in Lafayette Parish.

Aside from the Ernest Gallet Elementary School location, additional routes in the project include:

  • L.J. Alleman Middle & Woodvale Elementary Schools
  • Marilyn Drive, Kim Drive, and Reed Drive
  • Ernest Gallet Elementary School
  • E. Milton Avenue
  • Duson Elementary School
  • D Street
  • Ossun Elementary School
  • Rue Scholastique, Crooked Creek, Trewhill Parkway, and Valley Forest Road
