LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (February 20, 2025) – Over my decade of public service, I have made it a mission to increase transparency and ease of tracking how our tax dollars are spent.  It’s essential to building trust with our taxpayers as well as delivering the different services our residents expect.

In the Assessor’s office, one of the first initiatives I implemented was a new Tax Estimator on our website.  Using this tool, anyone can see how much a residential or commercial property would expect to pay in annual property taxes in any of our six municipalities or in unincorporated Lafayette Parish.  Additionally, you can determine the Parish or Municipal taxing authority receiving, and any dedication for, those taxes.

For example, a residential property within the city limits of Youngsville with a fair-market value of $300,000 and eligible for the $75,000 homestead exemption would be responsible for $1,949.96 in taxes for Parish-wide taxing bodies and $329.10 for municipal taxes to the City of Youngsville.

The City of Youngsville would then use that revenue to provide services according to the dedications of each tax: $168.60 for Water & Fire Services, $52.50 for Fire Protection and $108.00 for General Operations of the City.  Similarly, the parish-wide bodies use their tax revenue to provide schools, law enforcement, roads and drainage services.

For Parish-wide taxing bodies, the breakdown of how the revenue is spent can be seen in the following pie charts.

I and my staff are always happy to hear from our residents and businesses.  If you have any questions about your property, I encourage you to visit the Lafayette Parish Assessor’s Contact Page.  From there, you can call us directly, submit an online question or schedule an appointment to discuss your property.
