Lafayette Warming Shelter Opens in Advance of Freezing Temperatures

LAFAYETTE, LA (January 5, 2025) – In response to the imminent freezing temperatures approaching our community, Lafayette Consolidated Government is opening a warming center to provide refuge for individuals experiencing homelessness or who lack adequate heat at Dupuis Recreation Center (1234 East Pont Des Mouton Road, Lafayette, Louisiana) beginning at 6:00 pm this evening, January 5, 2025. Working in coordination with community partners, this collaborative effort works to ensure the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable members of our community during this anticipated weather event.

Those needing warm shelter can present at St. Joseph Diner (613 West Simcoe Street) starting at 6 p.m. this evening, January 5th, to be transported to the prepared LCG warming center or present in person at the Dupuis Recreation Center at Brown Park (1234 E. Pont Des Mouton Road), beginning at 6 p.m. Warming centers will remain open until Friday when temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark.
