The AIA South Louisiana Chapter was well represented at the AIA LA Conference on Architecture Awards Dinner in New Orleans at the Westin in New Orleans on Friday, September 29th, 2023.
The Medal of Honor was presented to Edward Jon Cazayoux, FAIA (principle of EnvironMental Design). The medal is awarded to no more than one individual architect per year. The Medal of Honor is the highest honor which AIA Louisiana can bestow, and is awarded by the Board of Directors in recognition of an individual architect who has significantly advanced the profession of architecture and who, by his/her leadership, has provided an inspiration to his/her fellow practitioners. This medal is established by AIA Louisiana to signally recognize and honor one of its members who have made major contributions worthy of recognition or a significant lifetime affecting the profession of architecture.
The Emerging Professionals Achievement Award was received by Ashley Bell Davis, AIA (2023 AIA South Louisiana chapter President and co-owner/architect at Davis Design & Consulting, LLC.) This honor award is given to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career. Only one award is given for this category each year in recognition of their outstanding leadership enthusiastic nature, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to the growth and development of AIA while making significant contribution during the early state of their architectural career in service of their profession and the nurturing of their community.
An Award of Merit was won by SO Studio (principle Stephen Juan Ortego, 2023 AIA South Louisiana chapter Treasurer) for both Vermillion Lofts and Bicycle Lafayette. In order to encourage excellence in architecture, the AIA Louisiana Chapter conducts an annual Awards to honor works of distinction by its members and bring attention of outstanding examples of architecture to the public. The Award of Merit is bestowed to work that demonstrate a high level of design quality worthy of recognition.
Both Louisiana Architecture Foundation Patron of Architecture Award recipients, Dr. Jack & Mrs. Pat Holden (nominated by Eddie Cazayoux, FAIA) and Honorable Mayor Ken Ritter, City of Youngsville Louisiana (nominated by AIA South Louisiana Chapter). The Louisiana Architecture Foundation Board of Regents non-architect individuals, corporations, organizations and groups whose good works have encouraged, fostered or promoted public understanding and appreciation of quality in Louisiana architecture. Recipients have inspired the advancement of architecture in Louisiana through their notable work.
