LAFAYETTE, LA (July 19, 2024) – Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association for supporting electric power restoration efforts in Tallahassee, Florida.
On Friday, 5/10/2024, a major storm hit the City of Tallahassee, FL and LUS was requested to provide mutual aid utility restoration assistance. LUS committed 15 employees and multiple vehicles to repair over 500 broken poles and restore power to approximately 100,000 customers in 10 days.
“Mutual aid is a two-way street,” said Greg Labbe’, Electric Operations Manager of LUS. “Lafayette faced several major storms over the last few years and the City of Tallahassee Electric Utility has been an invaluable resource in supporting our city’s power restoration efforts – we embraced the opportunity to assist our neighbor.”
LUS is a member of the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network which coordinates the mobilization of utilities support and resource availability during disasters.
