President John F. Kennedy established National Police Week (NPW) in 1962. NPW is held during the week of May 15, which is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The purpose of NPW is to honor and remember police officers for their services, contributions, and sacrifices, especially those from the Broussard Police Department and Youngsville Police Department.
