GOLF CARTS vs. LOW-SPEED VEHICLES (LSV) ON PUBLIC ROADS – KNOW THE LAW

YOUNGSVILLE, LA (Mar. 10, 2025) – There has been confusion about golf carts crossing roads with 35 mph or higher speed limits in Youngsville. To clarify:

  • GOLF CARTS: CANNOT legally cross any public roads with a 35 mph speed limit or higher in Youngsville.
  • LOW-SPEED VEHICLES (LSVs): CAN legally operate on roads up to 35mph and crossroads up to 45 mph.
  • BOTH require a valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance. Parents will be held responsible for underage operators.
  • To be street legal, a golf cart MUST have all required safety equipment, be registered with the DMV, and display a registration sticker. Simply adding lights to a golf cart does NOT make it street-legal.
