Lafayette, LA (April 29, 2026) – The Lafayette Parish School System announced the unexpected passing of a Westside Elementary teacher.
Elaine Austin was described as a dedicated educator and a valued member of the school community. School officials said she will be missed by those who had the opportunity to work and learn alongside her.
The school system acknowledged the impact of the loss on students and staff. Additional counselors and support personnel were made available on campus to provide assistance.
School officials extended their condolences to Austin’s family during this time.
