YOUNGSVILLE, LA (September 6, 2024) – The United States Department of Transportation awarded the City of Youngsville a $3,034,575 grant for essential road safety improvements to fund the replacement of the existing 4-way stop at LA 92 (Young Street) and Larriviere Road with a modern roundabout, aiming to enhance traffic flow and reduce accidents at this critical junction.
This successful, competitive grant application was a collaborative effort involving the City of Youngsville as lead applicant, the City of Broussard, Louisiana, Billeaud Companies, and Duplantis Design Group (DDG). The project highlights the continued commitment to improving infrastructure and safety for the region’s residents.
“I’m proud to partner with Broussard on another impactful road project that benefits both of our cities,” said Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter. “The awarding of this grant reflects our commitment to improve infrastructure and demonstrates the power of strategic planning, collaboration with neighboring municipalities, and partnering with the private sector to achieve significant results. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Mayor Ray Bourque, Billeaud Companies, and DDG for their crucial roles in this success.”
Mayor Ritter emphasized that the intersection at LA 92 and Larriviere Road, while included in Youngsville’s master plan, is owned by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). “This project has been particularly challenging due to the fact that this key intersection is under DOTD’s jurisdiction,” Mayor Ritter noted. “Nevertheless, securing this grant represents a major step forward in addressing the safety and efficiency of this critical intersection, which directly benefits our residents.”
“This award brings the total of competitively secured grant funding during my administration to over $45 million, excluding ARPA and state capital outlay dollars. This substantial investment encompasses a wide range of critical areas, including roads, drainage, water, sewer, recreation, and support for first responders. It reflects our unwavering commitment to the growth and well-being of our city.”
The design phase of the roundabout project will proceed in tandem with the South Larriviere Road construction project, scheduled to begin in 2025. This road construction project will raise and widen South Larriviere Road from LA 92 to Chemin Metairie Parkway, incorporating subsurface drainage improvements and the addition of sidewalks. Construction on the roundabout is expected to commence following the completion of the road project. “This strategic timing will ensure that both projects complement each other and significantly improve traffic flow and safety throughout the area, while also avoiding the challenge of having numerous major road projects underway simultaneously within the city.”
