Suspect Arrested for Setting Mobile Home on Fire

Lafayette, LA – Multiple fire trucks from seven fire departments responded to a mobile home fire on Petite Road at 1:20 p.m. this afternoon. Judice, Duson, and Milton Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the original 911 call reporting smoke coming from a mobile home in the Trails End Mobile Home Park, 409 Petite Road. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the mobile home was fully involved. The neighbors indicated that the occupant was not home. They rescued his dog from the home. While fighting the fire, a large field ignited as well. Additional firefighters and resources were called to assist from the Lafayette Fire Department, Maurice Fire Department, Indian Bayou Fire Department, and brush trucks from all parish volunteer departments. Fire responders were on the scene for over 2 hours fighting both fires.

The mobile home sustained heavy fire damage. The occupant lost everything in the fire. Fortunately, the neighbors were able to get the dog out without any injuries.

Lafayette Fire Department arson investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set. With the assistance of Lafayette Sheriff Department, a suspect was identified. Fire investigators arrested 30-year-old Jarad Decuir of Lafayette. He was charged with Simple Arson and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
