Tool Shed Fire Possibly Caused by Lithium Battery

LAFAYETTE, LA (August 8, 2024) – Lafayette firefighters responded to a shed fire at 7:49 a.m. in the 100 block of Triwood Circle. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the shed was fully involved. Fire crews contained the fire before it spread to the dwelling, and the shed and its contents sustained heavy fire damage.

The owner noticed the shed on fire and called 911. Firefighters arrived on the scene within 5 minutes. The fire was brought under control within fifteen minutes. No injuries were reported.

Lafayette fire investigators determined the fire started in the tool shed. Investigators are examining the charging system and lithium battery as a possible cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
