Update: Victim in House Fire on Evangeline Thruway Identified

LAFAYETTE, La. (Nov. 30, 2023) – The victim in the house fire on NW Evangeline Thruway last Tuesday, November 21, 2023, has been identified as Anthony Taylor, a twenty-eight-year-old black male. Taylor was originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. The next of kin has been notified. He lived in the Lafayette area for several years.

The coroner’s office indicated the cause of death was smoke inhalation. The incident remains under investigation.

One Fatality in Vacant House Fire on Evangeline Thruway

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette firefighters responded to a vacant two-story house fire in the 800 block of North West Evangeline Thruway at 4:10 p.m. on September 21, 2023. The fire was reported by witnesses driving in front of the building. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the structure was fully involved. The heat from the fire damaged the exterior of a home next door. Firefighters were able to keep it from catching fire. Emergency crews were able to get the fire under control within twenty minutes of being on the scene. While fighting the fire, the structure collapsed. The burning dwelling sustained heavy fire damage.

While examining the collapsed structure, a male victim was discovered in the burnt rubble. The male victim has not been identified. Louisiana State Fire Marshal, Lafayette Police Department, and Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office are assisting Lafayette fire investigators. The investigation into the fire is ongoing.

Two Lafayette firefighters sustained minor injuries on the scene. No loss of work is expected.

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette firefighters are on the scene of a two-story house fire in the 800 block of NW Evangeline Thruway. The fire was reported at 4:16 p.m. A witness called in the fire after noticing heavy smoke from the structure. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within twenty minutes and the fire is now out. The home was abandoned.

Southbound traffic on NW Evangeline Thruway has been shut down at Willow Street. Lafayette Police would have the status of any detours.

The Lafayette Fire Department states more details will be released at a later time.
