LAFAYETTE, LA (September 20, 2024) – On September 19, 2024, at around 6:32 p.m., officers with the Lafayette Police Department were working security at a Southside High football game at Comeaux High School. It was at that time they were alerted by the school’s weapons detector that the suspect, Ethan Lundberg, a white male, 19-year-old white male (W/M/19) of Lafayette, was attempting to enter the event with a possible firearm. A quick investigation was completed, and the individual was found to indeed be in possession of a firearm. Officers were able to secure the firearm, and Ethan was placed under arrest without incident. He was charged with one count of possession of a firearm; in a firearm free zone and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
No students or attendees were harmed during this incident. The safety of our students, staff, and community members remains our top priority. This is a reminder that all schools are a firearm free zone.
