LAFAYETTE, LA (November 13, 2024, 2:53 p.m.) – In regards to the driver of vehicle no. 1, he has been identified as Darius Bellard, a 29 year old black male of Lafayette, Louisiana. Mr. Bellard was located by Lafayette Police Department and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for failure to yield while turning left, failure to secure a driver’s license, felony hit and run, and negligent homicide. This crash remains under investigation by Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit.
UPDATE
LAFAYETTE, LA (November 13, 2024, 9:09 a.m.) – The preliminary investigation revealed vehicle no. 1, the sedan, was traveling northbound on NE Evangeline Thwy, making a left turn onto Chalmette Dr. Vehicle no. 2, the 18-wheeler, was traveling southbound on NW Evangeline Thwy in the inside lane. Vehicle no. 1 made a left turn in front of vehicle no. 2 and was struck on the passenger side. As a result of the accident, the passenger of vehicle no. 1 was deceased on the scene. The driver of vehicle no. 1 fled the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. Driver no. 2 provided a voluntary breath sample, but no signs of impairment were observed. The deceased in vehicle no. 1 has been identified as Nakisha Linzer (B/F/44) of Lafayette, LA. This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit.

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 13, 2024, 5:54 a.m.) – Traffic Investigators with the Lafayette Police Department are investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler and a sedan. The crash occurred at around 1:59 am at the intersection of NW Evangeline Thwy and Chalmette Dr. A passenger from the sedan was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of that vehicle fled the location.
Lafayette Police Traffic Investigators are currently investigating this incident. More information will be released when available.
