UPDATE
LAFAYETTE, LA (Jun. 7, 2024, 10:29 a.m.) – Investigators on the scene determined seven vehicles were involved in the crash. Three of the vehicles were occupied and traveling on the roadway, the other four were parked in a private parking lot and not occupied.
Vehicle #1 was traveling Eastbound on Mudd Avenue and failed to stop at the red traffic light. Vehicle #1 entered the intersection of Mudd Avenue and NE Evangeline Thruway and was struck by vehicle #2. Vehicle #2 was traveling Northbound on the NE Evangeline Thruway. Upon vehicle #2 colliding with vehicle #1, the impact caused vehicle #2 to strike vehicle #3, also traveling Northbound on the Evangeline Thruway.
A passenger inside vehicle #1 died as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash. The deceased victim is a 16-year-old male. The three other occupants inside vehicle #1 were transported to a local hospital. All three are currently listed in stable condition.
The drivers of vehicles #2 and #3 received minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. All travel lanes have been re-opened for motor vehicle traffic.

LAFAYETTE, LA (Jun. 7, 2024, 7:00 a.m.) – Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash near Mudd Avenue and the Northeast Evangeline Thruway. One person has died as a result of the crash. Investigators with the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit are on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Northbound traffic on the NE Evangeline Thruway at Mudd Avenue is shut down, and all traffic is diverted to an alternate route. If you are traveling in the area expect delays. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
