About the fatal vehicle crash involving the female pedestrian on the evening of October 5, 2023, the female victim has been identified as Joan Brown Aragon, fifty-nine, of Abbeville, Louisiana. This fatal vehicle crash is under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

All travel lanes on the 1300 block West Willow Street have been reopened and traffic is flowing normally. More information on this investigation will be updated as it becomes available.
LAFAYETTE, LA – On October 5, 2023, at approximately 8:31 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash involving major injuries on the 1300 block of West Willow Street. Lafayette Police are currently on the scene and have determined that it is a hit-and-run crash involving a deceased female at this location. Initial investigation suggests that a female pedestrian was walking westbound on the 1300 block of West Willow Street when she was struck by an unknown white truck, also traveling westbound on West Willow Street. The unknown suspect vehicle continued westbound on West Willow Street without stopping, fleeing the crash scene and heading toward Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit is currently on the scene and is conducting a hit-and-run traffic fatality investigation. Investigators are attempting to identify the female victim and the suspect involved. Currently, West Willow Street is closed from Calhoun Court to Aster Street. Motorists are urged to take an alternate route and avoid this area. An update will be provided when the roadway has been reopened, and the female victim’s identity is confirmed.
