LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 12, 2023, 8:14 a.m.) – On December 11, 2023, The Lafayette Police Department (LPD)arrested Deaontrae Sampson, twenty-nine, of Lafayette, Louisiana, in connection with this homicide investigation. Deaontrae Sampson was charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of illegal use of dangerous weapons, and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Deaontrae Sampson has been booked into LPCC for the charges as mentioned above.
Following the homicide occurring, LPD Investigators worked diligently to identify Deaontrae Sampson as the suspect in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained. Deaontrae Sampson was later apprehended by LPD’s Tactical Narcotics Team and Special Investigations Unit.
LAFAYETTE, La. – On 12/09/2023 at 11:01 p.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 300 block of Sampson Avenue about a shooting incident in progress. Upon arrival, one female victim was located in the area, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her person. As a result of her injuries, the female victim unfortunately died on the scene.
A crime scene was established, and investigators were called to the scene. It was later determined that the female victim was walking back from a neighbor’s residence when a suspect approached her. The suspect then proceeded to fire numerous rounds at the victim, striking her multiple times. The incident remains under investigation, as LPD Investigators are working diligently to develop the suspect’s identity.
The female victim has been identified as Michelle Touchet, thirty-seven, of Lafayette, La.
