The suspect is identified as one Joshua Rideaux, twenty-eight, of Lafayette, Louisiana. The suspect has been charged with one count of attempted 2nd-degree murder. LAFAYETTE, LA (Mar. 31, 2024) – On March 31, 2024, at 01:56 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) responded to the 100 block of Carlton Drive in Lafayette, Louisiana, about a shooting incident in progress. Upon arrival, LPD Officers located one male victim on the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds that were later deemed non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was provided medical aid by LPD Officers while on scene. This victim was then transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance. While on scene, LPD Officers were able to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect in this incident. A crime scene was established and LPD Investigators were called out to the crime scene.
Preliminary investigation details that this incident originated at a private residence. While at the private residence, the victim and his brother were involved in a verbal domestic dispute. The verbal dispute between the victim and his brother then escalated to a physical encounter. This physical encounter ultimately led to the victim’s brother (the suspect) brandishing a firearm and shooting the victim multiple times.
The suspect has been charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder. The suspect’s identity shall be released once processed through the booking facility. The victim is currently listed in stable condition. This incident remains under investigation, thus additional details shall be released as they are determined.
