UPDATE: Shooting Incident 200 block of Felicie Drive

LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 20, 2023, 1:13 p.m.) – On 12/20/2023, The Lafayette Police Department was notified that the victim from the shooting incident, which occurred in the 200 block of Felicie Drive, had died as a result of the injuries sustained during the shooting. The initial shooting incident occurred on November 27, 2023.

The victim had been receiving medical treatment since the shooting incident occurred. The victim is Colby Mitchell, thirty-eight, of Lafayette, Louisiana.

As a result of the victim’s death, the suspect, identified as James Guillory, will now have his charges amended from attempted 2nd-degree murder to 2nd-degree murder. James Guillory remains in LPCC for the charge of 2nd-degree murder.

UPDATE: November 27, 2023, 3:02 p.m.

Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the shooting that occurred earlier today at the 200 block of Felicie Drive. James Guillory, forty-five, from Lafayette, Louisiana, has been arrested and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder. James Guillory has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center (LPCC) for the aforementioned criminal charge.

Investigation has revealed that James Guillory was involved in a verbal dispute with the victim outside a residence in the 200 block of Felicie Drive. During the verbal dispute, James Guillory produced a firearm and shot the victim once. LPD Officers arrived on the scene, established a crime scene, provided medical aid to the victim, and apprehended James Guillory. The victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital as a result of the shooting incident.

Lafayette, LA – On November 27, 2023, at 11:52 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 200 block of Felicie Drive about a shooting incident in progress. Upon arrival, one victim was located at a residence in the area, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The male victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed as being in critical condition.

Investigators were called out to the scene and are actively working to develop leads. An update shall be provided as leads are determined.

It should be noted that Lafayette High School has been listed as a shelter-in-place; however, the school itself is not involved. The shelter-in-place is due to the proximity of Felicie Drive to the school itself.
