UPDATE: VICTIM IDENTIFIED: Shooting Incident 200 CO Circle leads to Homicide

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 13, 2024, 9:38 a.m.) – The suspect in regard to the homicide that occurred in the 200 block of CO Circle has been identified as Shawn Chaisson, a black 43 year old male. Mr. Chaisson was apprehended on November 11, 2024, by the Lafayette Police Department and booked at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute schedule II, illegal possession of stolen things, obstruction of justice, and several traffic charges.

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 9, 2024, 2:39 a.m.)  – In regards to the homicide that occurred on 11/08/24 at the 200 block of CO Circle, the victim has been identified as Rickey Christian, 65, of Lafayette, La. This incident remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division.

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 9, 2024, 2:31 a.m.) – On November 8, 2024, at 10:17 p.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 200 block of CO Circle about a shooting incident. Upon arrival, one male victim was located in the area, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to their person. The male victim was transported to a local hospital, where he unfortunately died as a result of his injuries sustained during the shooting incident.

A crime scene was established, and Investigators were called out. It was later determined that the male victim was engaged in a dispute in the 200 block of CO Circle when a suspect discharged a firearm, striking the victim.  The incident remains under investigation, as LPD Investigators are working diligently to develop the suspect’s identity.

The male victim’s identity is being withheld until proper next of kin notification has been made.
