LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 31, 2023, 12:56 p.m.) – Regarding the homicide in the 500 block of Jefferson Street from early this morning, the preliminary investigation indicated that the victim and the suspects engaged in a verbal altercation in a parking lot in the above-mentioned block. At some point during the altercation, one of the suspects brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The suspect lowered the gun, and the second suspect produced a second handgun and began firing at the victim, striking and killing him.
Officers were in the immediate vicinity, which led to a quick response and a rapid apprehension of the suspects. The victim has been identified as eighteen-year-old Justin Broussard, a white male of Arnaudville, Louisiana.
Investigators have arrested Russell Henry, a black male, twenty-nine, of Arnaudville, Louisiana. and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the following charges: manslaughter, possession of a stolen firearm, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The second suspect arrested is a seventeen-year-old juvenile male who has been booked into Lafayette Juvenile Detention Home on the following charges: second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, and simple escape stemming from a prior unrelated incident.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 31, 2023) – At around 1:10 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 500 block of Jefferson Street about shots being fired. When officers in the area arrived on the scene, one victim was found lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene and are actively working to develop leads. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided when available.
