UPDATE: Stabbing incident Leads to SWAT Callout

UPDATE

LAFAYETTE, La. (Feb. 20, 2024 9:48 a.m.) – The scene has been cleared at 618 St. Camille Street. The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) SWAT was able to enter the residence and conduct a safety sweep. The suspect was not located. Per information gained, it is believed that the suspect left the scene before LPD Patrol Officers arrived and established a perimeter around the residence.

LPD Investigators are actively working on this incident to determine leads that will result in the suspect’s arrest.

Lafayette, LA (Feb. 20, 2024 8:16 a.m.) – On February 20, 2024, at 6:25 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to 618 St. Camille St. Lafayette, La 70506, about a stabbing incident that left one victim injured. Upon LPD Officers arriving on the scene, the victim was located and provided medical aid until Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene. Acadian Ambulance then transported the victim to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, when LPD Officers arrived on the scene, the suspect barricaded inside the residence at 618 St. Camille St. As a result of this, along with the totality of the incident, The LPD SWAT Team and LPD Negotiator Team were activated and deployed to the scene. The scene is active as LPD SWAT and Negotiators are actively working to safely extract the suspect.

This incident remains under investigation. An update shall be disseminated as additional findings are made.
