UPDATE
LAFAYETTE, LA (May 2, 2024, 3:51 p.m.) – In regards to the major crash involving a fatality from earlier today, the preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that vehicle 1 was traveling east in the outside lane at the 700 block of East Pinhook Road. Vehicle 1 possibly struck the east curb, overcorrected, and traveled across all lanes on East Pinhook Road. Vehicle 2 was traveling west in the inside lane at the 700 block of East Pinhook Road. As vehicle 1 was traveling across all lanes of travel, vehicle 2 crashed into the passenger side of vehicle 1.
This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Division.
The deceased has been identified as Christopher Stafford, thirty-six of Lafayette, Louisiana.

LAFAYETTE, LA (May 2, 2024) – Lafayette Police are currently on the scene of a major vehicle crash involving a fatality in the 700 block of East Pinhook Road. At approximately 10:20 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to the above location about a vehicle crash involving a fatality. One of the motorists involved in the crash died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit is currently on scene and conducting the investigation. East Pinhook Road from the Evangeline Thruway to Gauthier Road is closed in both directions at this time. Motorists should avoid this area until further notice. An update will be provided when more information becomes available, and the roadway has been reopened.
