October 30, 2024: Lafayette, LA – In regards to last night’s major crash involving an 18-wheeler one person was critically injured as a result of this incident, but is in stable condition. Preliminary investigation on scene revealed that vehicle 1 was traveling east in the middle lane at the 2000 block of SW Evangeline Thruway. Vehicle 2 was stopped in the middle lane due to a red traffic control signal. As the traffic signal turned green and vehicle 2 proceeded east, vehicle 1 crashed into the rear of vehicle 2. Driver 2 provided a voluntary breath sample that yielded 0.00g% BAC. This crash remains under investigation by Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit.
Major Vehicle Crash Involving an 18-Wheeler

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Police Officers are currently on the scene of a major vehicle crash with injuries involving an 18-wheeler. The crash occurred at the intersection of E. Kaliste Saloom Road and SW Evangeline Thruway around 7:26 p.m.
Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit is also on scene and conducting the investigation. All Southbound lanes of the Evangeline Thruway near the intersection is closed at this time. Motorists should avoid this area until further notice, traffic is being diverted to Kaliste Saloom. An update will be provided when more information becomes available, and the roadway has been reopened.
