Vehicle Crash Results in Shooting

LAFAYETTE, LA (December 26, 2024, 11:26 a.m.) – In regards to the shooting this morning, additional information has been provided. Officers were in the area in reference to reckless vehicle reports and crowd control. Officers heard gunfire in the area while already on scene. Investigators have determined that gunfire was exchanged between two groups in the 1100 block of East Simcoe Street. The pedestrian was struck while taking cover from the gunfire by a vehicle that was fleeing the area. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver of this vehicle has not yet been identified.

The victim of the shooting sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and is now listed in stable condition. Multiple vehicles were also struck by gunfire during this altercation, but no other injuries have been reported. Detectives are still investigating this incident. More information will be disseminated as it is provided.

LAFAYETTE, LA (December 26, 2024, 4:49 a.m.) – On December 26, 2024, at 02:45 a.m., officers with the Lafayette Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Simcoe Street in reference to gunfire in the area. Upon their arrival, they located a vehicle crash, which resulted in one victim being shot. They also located a pedestrian who had been struck by a fleeing vehicle after the shooting occurred. The pedestrian sustained minor injury that did not require medical attention. The victim of the shooting was later located at a local hospital, where he had been brought by private transportation. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the chest that at this time is not believed to be life threatening.

Investigators are diligently working to determine the details of this incident. An update will be disseminated once additional information is obtained.
