UPDATE: November 28, 2023, 10:32 a.m.
Lafayette, LA – Through investigative means, The Lafayette Police Department identified a suspect in this shooting incident as Clifton Washington, thirty-four, of Lafayette, Louisiana. The Lafayette Police Department Investigative Unit was able to secure an arrest warrant for Washington due to one count of Second Degree Murder.
At around 8:44 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department and the United States Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force were able to place Washington at The Super 7, located at 2111 NW Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette. Upon members of law enforcement attempting to apprehend Washington, he barricaded himself inside a room at The Super 7. The Lafayette Police Department’s SWAT Team was deployed to the location. During the negotiation process, Washington elected to unalive himself by means of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators are currently on scene, and a crime scene has been established.

Lafayette, LA – The female victim from the homicide that occurred on November 24, 2023, in the 2800 block of NE Evangeline Thruway, has been identified as Nancy Herrick, thirty-nine, of St. Martinville, Louisiana.
The incident remains under investigation, and any further findings shall be released via an additional update.

POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Police Officers responded to the 2800 block of the Northeast Evangeline Thruway around 5:22 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene and located a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim died as a result of her injuries. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division are on the scene while the investigation is ongoing. More information will be provided when available.
