UPDATE: 09/05/2023, 3:50 p.m.: COOLING STATION CLOSING

LAFAYETTE, LA – The cooling station at the Domingue Recreation Center will cease operations beginning tomorrow, September 6, 2023. The station provided relief from the heat since opening nearly two weeks ago on August 23.

Turnout has been low, with a total of fourteen occasions of individuals seeking relief from the heat.

UPDATE 08/23/2023

The Domingue Recreation Center will now operate seven days a week from noon-5 p.m. until further notice.

LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT TO OPEN COOLING STATION

Lafayette, LA – With temperatures forecasted to climb above 100 degrees in the coming days, Lafayette Consolidated Government will open a cooling station for anyone who needs a safe place to escape the excessive heat.

The Domingue Recreation Center located at 901 Mudd Avenue will open starting tomorrow at noon and close at 5 p.m. Hours of operation will be Monday-Friday from noon to 5 p.m. until further notice.

The Lafayette Transit System will provide transportation to the recreation center via the Brown Route.
