UPDATE
LAFAYETTE, LA (Arp. 27, 2024, 4:29 p.m.) – Regarding the major vehicle crash earlier today, preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle #1 was traveling northbound on the 300 block of Verot School Road in the outside lane approaching vehicle #2.
Vehicle #1 made a lane change into the inside lane and struck the corner of the rear driver side of vehicle #2. It then went off the roadway and struck a sign. It continued and struck vehicle #3, parked next to a fuel pump at a gas station.
Pedestrian #1 is the owner of vehicle #3, who just finished pumping gas and was standing outside of vehicle #3. The impact caused vehicle #3 to strike Pedestrian #1 and throw him into the fuel pump. The pedestrian has several major injuries, but none of them are life-threatening.
Driver #1 was transported to the Lafayette Police Department, where he provided a voluntary breath sample of 0.000g%BAC. Driver #1 was issued a citation for reckless driving.
This crash is still under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.

LAFAYETTE, LA (Arp. 27, 2024, 1:01 p.m.) – Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 300 block of Verot School Road. At approximately 12:07 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to the above location about a vehicle crash involving injuries.
One victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition. A second victim involved was also transported for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver of the vehicle reported minor injuries and refused treatment.
Currently, the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit is on scene and conducting the investigation. Verot School Road heading towards the Evangeline Thruway from the 300 block to the 400 block is closed at this time. Motorists should avoid this area until further notice. An update will be provided when more information becomes available, and the roadway has been reopened.
