Homeowner Injured and Two Pets Perished in Fire Last Night

Lafayette, Louisiana (October 31, 2024) – Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Charles Drive at 9:24 p.m. last night. Neighbors noticed flames coming from a bedroom window and called 911. When firefighters arrived on scene, first responders were informed that an elderly female was inside. They immediately conducted search and rescue operations. The occupant was found inside the smoked filled dwelling. Emergency crews brought her outside and began providing medical care. Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene, continued care and transported the 69-year-old to a local hospital. 

The dwelling sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. Two of the owner’s pets, a dog and a cat, perished in the fire.

Fire officials determined the fire originated in the bedroom. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
