LAFAYETTE, LA (November 30, 2024) – A house fire in the 300 block of South Bienville Street was reported by a neighbor at 7:35 a.m. this morning. Multiple fire units were dispatched to the incident. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the single-family dwelling was fully involved. The heat from the fire ignited two adjacent homes. Emergency crews were able to bring the fires under control within twenty minutes. The dwelling sustained major fire damage. The vinyl siding on one of the neighboring homes melted. The other home sustained moderate fire damage.

The occupant of the dwelling was not home when the fire was reported. A neighbor smelled something burning. He went outside and noticed smoke coming from the house. He knocked on the door to alert the occupant. Fortunately, he was not home. The neighbor called 911. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials determined the fire originated in the kitchen. A burner on the range was “on”. The fire was ruled an accident.
