LAFAYETTE, LA (October 30, 2024) – As a result of the death of Judge Jules D. Edwards, III on October 15, 2024, it was necessary that Judge Edwards’ previously scheduled dockets for 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2024, and 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2024, and Judge Saloom’s 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2024, be canceled and rescheduled. ALL CASES SCHEDULED FOR COURT ON THE ABOVE DATES HAVE NOW BEEN RESET.
If you have not already signed a notice for the new court date, the court has forwarded notice of the new court date to the last address that was provided on file. It is the party’s responsibility to ensure that the court has a current address. If your address has changed, you must provide the new address in writing to the court by mail or in person. The court’s mailing address is Post Office Drawer 3344, Lafayette, Louisiana 70502-3344. You must include your full name as it appears on your old notice, your docket number and your new address including city, state, and zip code. You can also provide a contact number and email address. All efforts will be made to contact each party so the more information that you provide the better the chance of contact. FURTHER, ALL MATTERS SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2024, AND THEREAFTER, WILL REMAIN AS SCHEDULED AND YOU MUST APPEAR IN COURT AS SHOWN ON YOUR NOTICE.
The passing of Judge Edwards has created a vacancy in the office of Judge of Lafayette City Court, Division “A”. To guarantee the continued operation of the Judge’s Office during the period of vacancy, the Louisiana Supreme Court has appointed Retired Judge, Frances M. Bouillion, (Pro Tempore, effective October 22, 2024 through October 24, 2024); Retired Judge Glennon P. Everett (Pro Tempore, effective October 28, 2024 and October 29, 2024); and Retired Judge Vanessa Harris (Pro Tempore, effective November 6, 2024 through May 31, 2025, or until the vacancy is filled, whichever occurs sooner). During the period of their appointment, the judges pro tempore will handle the duties and responsibilities of the judge of Lafayette City Court, Division “A”. A special election to fill the vacancy has not been scheduled as of this date.
