LPSO Awarded Grant to Participate in National “Click It or Ticket” Campaign

Submitted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 27, 2024) — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) is pleased to announce its receipt of a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) to support participation in the Click It or Ticket traffic safety campaign, running from November 23 to November 30, 2024. This campaign, part of a national effort led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), aims to increase seat belt use and promote safer roadways throughout Lafayette Parish.

During the Click It or Ticket campaign period, LPSO deputies will conduct increased enforcement patrols to encourage drivers and passengers to wear seat belts, with a special focus on night-time enforcement when seat belt use rates are statistically lower, and crash rates are higher.

Seat belt use has proven to be a life-saving measure, reducing the risk of serious injury and fatality in crashes. According to NHTSA, nearly half of those killed in motor vehicle crashes were unrestrained at the time of impact, underscoring the importance of this campaign.

LPSO reminds all drivers and passengers to buckle up for every trip, short or long, as part of a collective effort to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
