LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (April 28, 2025) – The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to inform citizens of scam attempts involving phone calls from blocked phone numbers. Scammers are calling citizens claiming to be ranking members of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. If the citizen does not answer the phone call, the scammer leaves a voicemail requesting a callback. In the voicemail, the scammer leaves no context regarding the purpose of the phone call.

At this time, it is unclear what the scammer is attempting to gain.

Please be mindful that in the recent past, scammers often demanded payments through untraceable methods such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. They may also request personal information, such as your Social Security number or date of birth, to steal your identity. To appear legitimate, they might provide fake badge numbers or case numbers.

Please be advised, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office does not seek any type of payment over the telephone.

If you are contacted by a caller requesting money and claiming to be law enforcement, do NOT transfer any form of payment to the caller and contact law enforcement immediately.

If you have questions about a possible warrant or about how to make a payment for the various services offered by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, please call (337) 232-9211.
