LAFAYETTE, LA (October 8, 2024) – Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber has achieved the distinguished honor of participating in and graduating from the 47th Session of the FBI’s National Executive Institute (NEI), held in Quantico, Virginia, last week.

The NEI is described as the crown jewel of the FBI’s executive training initiatives. Established in 1975, it provides leadership development for executives of the largest law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, federal law enforcement partners, military criminal investigative branches, and international police departments.

Throughout the session, attendees covered important and timely topics, including strategic leadership, image management, improving police/community relationships, diversity and inclusion, body cameras and other technology, recruitment/retention, and officer wellness.

Notably, all NEI participants must be personally nominated to attend the program, which is held throughout the year in three intensive one-week cycles with approximately 50 participants in each session. Sheriff Garber was the only agency head from the state of Louisiana nominated to attend the 47th session of the institute. With this accomplishment, Sheriff Garber joins more than 1,600 executives who have graduated from the NEI.

“As sheriff of Lafayette Parish, I’m committed not to only bettering the agency I serve, but also to seizing every opportunity to improve myself and my leadership,” said Sheriff Garber, “The foundation of my career is, and always has been, rooted in the continuous pursuit of information, education and effective use of modern technology—ensuring that everyone who calls Lafayette Parish home gets the exceptional level of law enforcement service and protection they deserve.”

Sheriff Garber’s completion of the NEI program follows his graduation from the 282nd session of the FBI National Academy in June of 2022.
