BROUSSARD, LA (September 26, 2024) – SLEMCO line workers departed this morning at 7:30 a.m. for the “Big Bend” of Florida to assist Talquin Electric Cooperative in their power restoration efforts.  Hurricane Helene is currently forecasted to strike Talquin’s service area as a direct hit, packing Category 3 hurricane-force winds and storm surge.

SLEMCO’s team includes 35 line workers with varying skill sets, including overhead and underground line construction and tree trimming. Bucket trucks, digger-derricks, material handlers, off-road equipment, pole trailers, and utility trailers were sent to help workers restore power safely and efficiently.

Talquin Electric Cooperative is headquartered in Quincy, Florida – just north west of Tallahassee.  They serve 57,000 customers from the Gulf Coast to the Georgia state line.
