LAFAYETTE, LA (September 27, 2024) – On September 27, 2024, at 12:17 p.m., officers with the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) responded to 320 Devalcourt Street, South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) about a student on campus with a concealed handgun on his person. With the help of campus security and Lafayette Sheriff’s Deputies School Resource Officers, the suspect, Adrian Harmon, a 26-year-old black male, was located in an upstairs classroom and detained without incident. Officers were able to secure the firearm and Adrian was placed under arrest. He will be charged with one count of possession of a firearm; in a firearm free zone and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Through further investigation it was determined that due to his vehicle previously being burglarized he did not want to leave an unattended firearm inside his vehicle so he brought it inside with him. At this time, there is no evidence to support that the suspect intended to cause harm with his weapon. No students or staff were harmed during this incident. The safety of students and staff remains top priority. This is a reminder that all schools are firearm free zones.
