Major Vehicle Crash Involving a Motorcycle

LAFAYETTE, LA (September 27, 2024) – On September 26, 2024, at 7:44 p.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 600 block of Rue du Belier Road about a traffic accident involving two motor vehicles at the intersection of Rue du Belier and West Congress Street. Upon arrival, one subject involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the traffic accident.

Traffic investigators were called out to the scene where preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was traveling south on the 600 block of Rue du Belier at West Congress Street in the designated left turn lane with a green signal (no arrow). Vehicle 2 was traveling North on the 700 block of Rue du Belier, at West Congress Street, with a green signal. Vehicle 1 failed to yield and attempted to turn left on the 4700 block of W. Congress St., crossing Vehicle 2’s travel lane, resulting in a collision. Driver 1 was transported to Oschner Lafayette General Medical Center (OLGMC), where he is currently in critical but stable condition. Driver 2 was transported to the Lafayette PD where he provided a voluntary breath sample of 0.000g%BAC. The crash is still under investigation with the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
