Lafayette, LA – Regarding the homicide that occurred last night, May 03, 2023. The victim has been identified as Rasheed Carmouche 26, of Lafayette, LA. Investigators have arrested the suspect responsible for the shooting, Thomas Woods (B/M/29) of Lafayette, LA. He was arrested and booked on a warrant for one count of second degree murder and one count of illegal discharge of weapons. Mr. Woods was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. It was later learned through further investigation that one the shooting actually occurred in the 2700 block of E. Simcoe Street. Mr. Carmouche was walking along the 2700 block of E. Simcoe when Mr. Woods shot him.

Homicide Investigation in the 2500 block of E. Simcoe Street
Lafayette, LA – Around 6:07 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to a shooting in progress in the 2500 block of E. Simcoe Street. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began rendering life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries.
Homicide investigators are currently on the scene gathering information and piecing together the facts. More information regarding this investigation will be released as it becomes available.
