Lafayette Man Arrested for Attempted First-Degree Murder

Lafayette, LA – On June 18, 2023, at around 2:28 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to the 100 block of Vieux Orleans Circle about an aggravated assault with a firearm. Upon the officer’s arrival on the scene, they were notified that the suspect had driven into the area, telling the victim that he would get a gun.  The victim said the suspect returned a short time later with a gun and fired multiple rounds at the victim. The suspect then fled the area on foot but was apprehended a short time later.  The victim was not shot and received no injuries due to this.

The suspect arrested was Irvin Gant, 54, of Lafayette, LA.  Mr. Gant was booked in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of attempted first-degree murder.
