UPDATE: Major Accident 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy

Lafayette, LA – As a result of the accident, one of the occupants has died updating this incident to a fatal traffic crash. The occupant who died has been identified as one Abdul Shamsuddin, an 82 years of age male from Youngsville, Louisiana.

Officers with the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway in reference to a major vehicle crash involving one vehicle. Preliminary on-scene investigation showed that vehicle 1 was traveling North on the 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway when he hit the curb and went off the roadway on the East side. Vehicle 1 then backed onto Ambassador Caffery Parkway and proceeded South. Vehicle 1 then crossed both southbound lanes and struck the curb on the West side of the roadway. After striking the curb, Vehicle 1 traveled off the road and struck a tree before stopping. Passenger 1, who was unrestrained in the back seat, was transported to Ochsner’s Lafayette General Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries. Driver 1 was transported to Ochsner’s Lafayette General Medical Center in stable condition and submitted to a voluntary blood test in which the results are pending. At this time, it is believed that Driver 1 suffered a medical episode before the crash. The traffic crash is currently being investigated by Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Investigators. Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Police Department’s Patrol Division and Traffic Crash Investigators are currently working on a major traffic crash incident in the 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette, Louisiana 70508. The crash occurred around 10:45 a.m., when a single vehicle, for unknown reasons, ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then continued to travel off-road right, where the vehicle subsequently collided with a tree. The vehicle contained two occupants, both of whom were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation. Any updates will be provided via an additional press release.
