LAFAYETTE, LA (Apr. 26, 2024) – On April 26, 2024, at 12:50 a.m., The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 1400 block of South West Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette, Louisiana, in regards to a pedestrian-involved motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, it was determined that the pedestrian was deceased as a result of the accident. Traffic investigators were called out to the scene, where they began investigating the incidents leading up to the accident. Traffic Investigators gather details and findings, which resulted in the following;
The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed vehicle #1 was traveling southbound on the 1400 block of SW Evangeline Thruway in the outside lane. For unknown reasons, Pedestrian #1 was walking in the middle of the roadway and was struck by vehicle #1. AASI pronounced the pedestrian deceased on the scene. Driver #1 was transported to the Lafayette Police Department, where she provided a voluntary breath sample of 0.000g%BAC. This crash is still under investigation with the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Derouen, sixty-three, of Lafayette, Louisiana.
