Update: Police Investigate Shooting on Moss Street

Lafayette, LA – Regarding the shooting that occurred on January 18, 2023 in the 2300 block of Moss Street. On January 19, 2023, Dekial Alexander (24) of Lafayette, LA, one of the suspects responsible was arrested on a warrant for the following charges, attempted second degree murder (2 counts), simple criminal damage to property and illegal discharge of a firearm. Mr. Alexander was transported and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the above mentioned charges. On January 23, 2023 a second suspect, juvenile male, (16) of Lafayette, LA, was arrested on a juvenile warrant for the following charges, attempted second degree murder (2 counts), simple criminal damage to property and illegal discharge of a firearm. The juvenile suspect was placed in Lafayette Juvenile Detention Home and booked on the above mentioned charges.

Police Investigate Shooting on Moss Street

Lafayette, LA – At around 6:42 pm officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of Moss Street. Once on scene officers located two juvenile victims suffering from gun shot wounds. Both victims are listed in stable condition and have been transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Investigation at the scene revealed that the victims were in a parking lot located in the 2300 block Moss Street when a verbal altercation ensued between the victims and occupants of an unknown vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle began to shoot in the direction of the victims striking them both before fleeing the area in an unknown direction. This investigation is ongoing.
