UPDATE: Homicide on E Simcoe Street

Around 6:07 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to a shooting in progress in the 2500 block of E. Simcoe Street.

Fire at 200 Block of Vanburen Drive

Yesterday, May 2, 2023, Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 200 block of Vanburen Drive.

Homicide Investigation near West Congress and University Avenue

Just before 3:00 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to reports of “shots being fired” near the intersection of West Congress and University Avenue.

One Homicide, One Injured Over Shots

The victim from this morning’s homicide has been identified as Raylon Mason 22, of St. Martinville, LA. 

LPD Working a Fatal Vehicle Crash

Lafayette Police are on the scene of a major vehicle crash. The crash occurred around 11:03 a.m., in the 3200 block of Moss Street. There is one confirmed fatality at this time.

Follow Up on YFD Scaling Back Services

At the April 2023 monthly board meeting for the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Inc. on April 19, 2023, it was voted on to discontinue non-contractual services to the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish.

YFD to Scale Back Services Outside of City Limits

According to a news report on KLFY, the Youngsville Fire Department (YFD) Board of Directors voted to scale back services to the unincorporated area of Lafayette Parish that is outside of the Youngsville city limits.
