LAFAYETTE, LA (April 11, 2025) – The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is excited to welcome Colleen Comeaux as the new principal of Lafayette Elementary, bringing over 15 years of experience in education, instructional leadership, and school administration.
Mrs. Comeaux began her teaching career in 2009 as a first-grade teacher at North Elementary in Opelousas. She joined LPSS in 2012 as a third-grade teacher at Ossun Elementary, and in 2014 transitioned to J. Wallace James Arts Academy, where she taught both third and fifth grade. As a classroom educator, she developed a strong passion for instructional excellence, student engagement, and creating inclusive and positive learning environments.
After more than a decade in the classroom, Mrs. Comeaux stepped into school leadership, serving three years as the instructional leader at Cpl. Michael Middlebrook Elementary. In 2020, she became the school’s assistant principal, where she was instrumental in implementing instructional initiatives, supporting student behavior systems, and fostering strong relationships with families and the wider school community. Under her leadership, Middlebrook consistently maintained a “B” School Performance Score (SPS) and earned “Top Gains” recognition each year.
Now, as she steps into the role of principal at Lafayette Elementary, Mrs. Comeaux is eager to continue her mission of creating a supportive, engaging, and high-achieving school environment.
“I am honored to serve as the principal of Lafayette Elementary and look forward to working alongside our talented staff, supportive families, and incredible students,” said Mrs. Comeaux. “Together, we will continue to cultivate a culture of growth, opportunity, and success for every student.”
Mrs. Comeaux holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Louisiana State University Shreveport and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. shared his confidence in her leadership, stating, “Mrs. Comeaux has demonstrated a deep commitment to student success and school improvement throughout her career. Her instructional expertise and dedication to building strong school communities make her an excellent fit for Lafayette Elementary. I look forward to seeing the great things she will accomplish in this new role.”
LPSS is thrilled to welcome Mrs. Comeaux and looks forward to the energy, vision, and continued success she will bring to the new Lafayette Elementary school.
